In this second interview citybiz asks Baltimore-based Think’s Tony Gruebl, the firm’s president and founder, and Jeff Musgrove, managing director of executive advisory and PE and venture support, to discuss the company’s recent acquisition of Ventrue and why it puts the company on the path to offering services nationwide. In September, Think purchased Ventrue LLC, a Naples, Fla.-based shared services company for an undisclosed price. As part of the transaction Think signed a partnership agreement with Naples Technology Ventures (NTV), a venture capital fund that invests in technology companies. Think will provide technology and advisory services to support NTV’s acquisitions. The Ventrue and NTV deal opens new markets for Think, primarily with private equity and venture capital firms. Musgrove says potential clients are disruptors operating in insurtech, fintech and healthtech. Through Ventrue, Think can plug into these companies and advise them along the business lifecycle in three primary areas: diligence, integration and optimization. “I have been a big believer that there is a gap to be filled by a firm like Think in that space as a trusted partner to the PE or VC firm who can go in and perform those critical functions for them,” Musgrove said. “So, they don’t need to build it. Citybiz Interview with Kevin Hrusovsky, Chairman & CEO, Quanterix

Spend a few minutes with Kevin Hrusovsky, President, CEO and Chairman of Quanterix, and you will quickly understand that he and his colleagues are on a mission to transform medicine. Hrusovsky believes the Billerica, Mass.-based life sciences company has the technology and know-how to change medicine from merely providing reactive “sick care” to identifying disease and illness at the cellular level so people can be treated while they are still healthy. As a result, healthcare becomes preventative and personalized. “Quanterix is a company that has figured out how to apply rocket science to the blood,” Hrusovsky says. Hrusovsky took Quanterix, QTRX, public in 2017 and since this past March its stock has nearly tripled trading in the $40 range. What’s more, on Oct. 6, Quanterix won an $18.2 million contract from National Institutes of Health to accelerate the development of a next generation Covid-19 test. Why would NIH bother with Quanterix? The company’s technology detects protein biomarkers in extremely low concentrations in blood, serum and other fluids that, in many cases, are undetectable using conventional, analog immunoassay technologies. Its technology is 1,000 times more sensitive than any technology in the world, so it can uncover disease when people are healthy. Quanterix’s hopes to scale to 1 million COVID tests a week in the coming months. The company has 248 employees and will hire an additional 60 for the project. We spent a few minutes with Kevin to discuss the science behind Quanterix, its NIH work and the company’s prospects. Interview Questions: Quanterix Today | Can you provide an explanation of biomarkers, the goal of advancing precision health and a snapshot of Quanterix today? Biomarkers and COVID-19 | Can you explain how Quanterix has pivoted and responded to Covid-19? Can you describe the role of your technology Simoa? Graphic novel: Disinformation and cyber warfare illustrated in Real Fake

Deepfakes, bots, and troll farms are just some of the emerging techniques for creating and spreading disinformation. The Raise Up Trump Political Action Committee, a coalition of business leaders organized by Bloomington, CA based RPP Products CEO, Eric Zwigart, pledging to give all employees a pay raise if President Trump is re-elected, announced it filed a Complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). The complaint from the Raise Up PAC calls out Expensify’s CEO David Barrett for violating Federal Election law in his “unreported, improper Independent Expenditure supporting Joe Biden”. In response to last week’s repeated calls for industry collaboration at SHIPPINGInsight Fleet Optimization and Innovation Conference and Exhibition , its Chief Evolution Officer, Carleen Lyden Walker, announced the formation of the Global Maritime Information Coalition (GMIC) designed to address the lack of unified messaging to the public about the maritime industry. “The recent crew change crisis has illuminated the maritime’s low awareness in the public’s consciousness”, stated Walker. “Despite the importance of the maritime industry to global society, seafarers were not deemed ‘essential workers’ alongside firemen, policemen, medical personnel, and other worthy groups. Much of this is due to the lack of understanding how dependent the world’s community is on shipping, providing it with food, energy, medical supplies and more.” “Since its inception, the maritime industry has been in the forefront of globalization as the literal ‘engine of global trade’, carrying more than 90% of the world’s goods and energy” stated Walker. “Because of its siloed roots, however, this essential service remains nearly invisible to the public.
