SynaVoice SOL virtual camp has world-class leaders for remaining sessions

SynaVoice SOL is a pop-up virtual camp for high school students. Unique topics are presented in one-week sessions to provide exposure to new ideas, concepts, and skills. A diverse group of campers from nine states hear from world-class experts and engage in conversations in their cabins. Prior to teaching, Dr. Diamond practiced law for 25 years as both a state prosecutor and a defense attorney. Dr. Diamond has extensive criminal trial experience and was the lead lawyer in more than 1,000 criminal cases. He will provide real-life examples to explain the criminal justice system to the campers. He will meet live with the campers on Friday to lead the discussion and answer questions. Our last session features Curt Doty, former studio executive and award-winning marketer with an extensive legacy in television having created branding and image campaigns for clients such as Warner Bros TV, TV Guide, Discovery, ABC, FX, to name a few. He has lectured all over the world and is a visionary and outspoken creative on what is happening at the intersection of technology, content and design. Campers will learn about the influence of design from ancient history to the present day and will create logos of their own. COVID: Patents Being Abandoned At Triple The Normal Rate According to BlueIron Study

An updated analysis by BlueIron shows that the COVID crisis has dramatically affected business's IP strategy. This lack of confidence in the future has never been seen before and has severe implications. "Patents represent a company's confidence in the future and their ability to innovate. Companies get patents because they believe in their innovations and that they will be successful in the market," says Russ Krajec , CEO of BlueIron, which finances patent portfolios for innovative companies. "COVID has been shaken this confidence in ways we have never seen before." The abandonment rate has shot up since COVID started, especially for Small Entities, which are companies of less than 500 people. As reported in March , the abandonment rate nearly doubled, but in July, the trend has continued with abandonments nearly tripling. For Small Entities, the abandonment rate has gone from 11.7% to 31%. For Large Entities, the abandonment rate has doubled from about 6.5% to 13%. Abandonments are pending patent applications where the applicant has decided to quit prosecution. These data are from when the USPTO examiner has issued a rejection and the applicant has refused to respond, letting the patent go abandoned rather than invest more money in it. The average number of rejections for US patents is about 4.2 per patent. "Patents are 20 year assets and are typically are not affected by short term market swings. A similar study during the 2008 recession showed patent abandonment rate being very steady," says Krajec . "However, the COVID crisis has changed things in ways we have never seen before." "Certainly, companies are taking a very hard look at expenses and IP costs are one way to conserve cash during lean times. But cutting off the future value of your company by abandoning patents shows a completely different type of thinking than we have seen before." D-Squared Media today announced the production and release of a new advocacy documentary about the survival of the Iraqi Jewish Archives, over 20,000 documents and personal artifacts rescued in 2003 by U.S. soldiers from the basement of Saddam Hussein’s secret police headquarters in Baghdad. “Saving the Iraqi Jewish Archives: A Journey of Identity,” a feature-length film (56 minutes) is fourth in the series about Iraq’s Jewish community, culture and history, produced over 25 years by D-Squared Media, a full-service production company in New York City. The two have collaborated on all films in the Iraqi Jewish series which have brought a deeper recognition of the community and its history. “Saving the Iraqi Jewish Archives” is the first documentary to introduce images of the archives while telling the story of their discovery, rescue and, as yet, undetermined future. It utilizes first person accounts and rare news footage of 1969 Iraq, including the hangings of nine Jews in a Baghdad public square. “This is a story of miracles many times over,” said Ms. Davis, Co-Director, Producer, Co-Writer and Editor of the film. “First, the archives were discovered by a confidential informant,” she added. “Then they survived the wars in Iraq, and an arduous restoration process by the U.S. National Archives. Now, the fact that they are finding their way to the people whose names and images are on the material is unbelievable. A significant portion of the material rescued is personal including school records from the main Jewish school in Baghdad, wedding and birth registers, religious books and Torah scrolls. Interview subjects, many of whom escaped Iraq, became emotional and expressed shock at discovering their names and images among the thousands of documents thought long ago destroyed. “What if you lost your high school diploma, marriage license and children’s birth records?” asked Ms. Davis. “Or at least you thought you did, but then they were found? Wouldn’t you want them back and preserved for future generations to learn who they are and where they came from? Iraqi Jewish Activists Worldwide say “Don’t Send These Items Back to Iraq” The archives, currently in the U.S. and partially digitized, risk being returned to Iraq at any moment -- unless the worldwide Iraqi Jewish community is able to create a groundswell of support to preserve them. “Without access to the archives, the 2,700-year story of Iraq’s Jews is in danger of being lost,” warned Ms. Davis. “It is essential for this material to survive so the presence of Jews in Iraq will be irrefutable.” Along with personal recollections, the film includes interviews with representatives from B’nai B’rith International, JIMENA, a former Department of Defense official, the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Justice for Jews from Arab Countries, and American Sephardi Federation. The culmination of the film is a call to action, offering potential solutions to the fate of the archives, while making it clear that sending the archives back to Iraq would be disastrous. In addition to public screenings, the filmmakers seek private showings to members of Congress, the Executive Branch and the State Department, all of whom can play a role to save the archives. An official selection of the 23rd New York Sephardic Jewish Film Festival, the film’s scheduled premiere on March 17, 2020 was postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
